Arizona immigration law
The law made a lot of people angry. The move unleashed immediate protests and reignited the divisive battle over immigration reform nationally. Immigrants and advocates for illegal march Friday outside the state capitol in Phoenix. Even before she signed the bill at an afternoon news conference here, President Obama strongly criticized it.

Times Square Bomber
A terrorist strike was narrowly averted in Times Square in May. Pakistani immigrant 31 year old Faisal Shahzad packed his 1993 Nissan Pathfinder with explosives that failed to go off. A street vendor notified police that smoke was coming out of the car. Shahzad was a American citizen who received $15,000 and explosives training from the Pakistan Taliban. He was plucked off a Dubai-bound aircraft at JFK International Airport. He was sentenced to life in prison in October, while being questioned he warned of future attacks.

US withdrawal in Iraq War
President Barack Obama withdrew combat troops from war-torn Iraq in August. He decided to leave 50,000 noncombat troops to work behind the scenes. This was a major milestone in the war and a campaign fulfillment for President Obama.

Government issues Guidelines on Greenhouse gas emissions
The United States will swear off the development of new generations of nuclear weapons and will not use its existing air force to use on the other nation that isnt a threat.
Obama stressed that the preventing of nuclear proliferation and nuclear terrorism in the top of Americas nuclear agenda.
He noted the United States will conduct nuclear testing and administration will seek ratification of the 1996 Comprehensive Test Ban treaty.
The position provides a road map to help achieve Obamas longterm goal of a nuclear free world, Gates addedd.
It removes a calculated ambiguity in past U.S. nuclear policy while making clear that this is a weapon of last resort.
The federal government took its first formal step to regulate global warming pollution on Thursday by issuing final rules for greenhouse gas emmissions for automobiles and light trucks.
The move ends a 30 year battle between regulators and automakers but sets the stade for what may be a bigger fight over climate- altering emissions from stationary sources like power plants steel mills an refineries.

Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona was shot in the head when a assailant opened fired outside a grocery during a meeting with constituents.
Killing at least five people and wounding several others in rampage that rattled the nation.
Giffords was among at least 10 people wounded and the hospital said her outlook was optimistic and that she was responding to commands from the doctors.
The hospital said a 9 year old child was among the killed, and a US Marshal said a federal judge was also fatally shot in the attack.
Giffords spokesman C.J. Karamargin said an unspecified number of her staff members were injured in the shooting.
Pima County Sherriffs officials said he used a pistol to carry out the shooting spree.

BP Oil SPill
Th oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico which flowed for three months in 2010 has left an impact on the US.
It is the largest accidental marine oil spill in the history of the petroleum industry.
The explosion killed 11 men working on the platform and injured 17 others.
It was estimated that 53,00 barrels per day were escaping from the well
On September 19 2010 the relief well process was successfully completed.
The government finally declared the well dead.
The spill caused extensive damage to marine and wildlife habitats as well as the fishing and tourism industries.
A research team found oil on the bottom of the sea floor that did not seem to degrade.
